Poetic and tranquil publication with multiple narrative structures.
We are very much looking forward to teach screen design and time-based media at the Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design as well as typography at the Merz Akademie again this semester.
Poetic and tranquil publication that interweaves photographs and paintings with text fragments to form multiple narratives.

Poetic and tranquil publication that interweaves photographs and paintings with text fragments to form multiple narratives.
In her research project “Draußen”, the artist Laura Becker tended and observed a small garden over the period of a year and explored it through drawings and photographs. The publication “Draußen Annäherung” is the result of a visual exploration that examines the ever-changing character of the garden in another medium and makes it tangible through different perceptions.
Echoing the intention of understanding the garden, approaching it and creating something new ‘together’, the letters of the title gently converge and merge into words.
Depending on how the publication is turned, the arrangement of the contents leads to different perceptions: Sometimes the paintings are ‘the right way up’, while the photographs are upside down – if the publication is turned round, the relation is reversed. This changing reception creates different narratives, in which sometimes the investigator and sometimes the investigated comes to the fore.
In a fictitious dialogue between the artist and the garden, the gentle story of a rapprochement is told on another level. The arrangement is reminiscent of subtitles from silent films and, like the images, is sometimes in the direction of reading and sometimes upside down.
